Manufacturer to invest more in the US and China, position itself as a leader in high-performance cameras and beef up its content offerings.

Sony has set itself a target of selling doubling smartphone sales to 80 million units globally during fiscal 2016.
This is according to Sony CEO Kazuo Hirai, who was speaking to Asian business news website Nikkei Asian Review at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas earlier this week.

Hirai (pictured) said it can achieve this upping its investment and recruiting more staff in the US and China.
According to the report, Sony will look to leverage its position as the world’s best provider of digital camera image sensors and increase content services on its smartphone, such as music, games and films.
Fiscal 2014 runs from April 1, 2013 until March 31, 2014, with the 2016 financial year running between the same dates two years later.
Hirai said: “We hope to maintain the same growth pace as the past two years. We’ve built the foundations in Japan and Europe. From now on, we’ll put more resources into the US and Chinese markets.

“I can’t share detailed plans. But now that we’ve decided to go on the offensive, we’ll put money and people into those markets.”
